A Tiny Tea Leaves Cardigan for Little Miss A

This is Tiny Tea Leaves, by Melissa Labarre

I've been on a mission to use up my stash - which is a little ridiculous in size.   I bought this wool         (O-wool Classic in Thistle - I can't recall the color names for the stripes)  when I first started knitting, with plans for a sweater for Little Miss A - that was 2 years ago ;)  The pattern I'd intended it for is miles too small.  I also didn't have quite enough of the pink, so I added in the stripes, just in case.

I love this pattern.  It's very very easy, but still beautiful.  The only part I don't care for is picking up stitches for the button panel.  I like it when the panel is just knit at the end of the row as you go, but that's ok - I still love it ;)

Mainly tho this pattern is just interesting enough that I didn't get too bored, but not so complicated that I can't knit and chat, or knit and watch a movie ;)  That's my favorite kind of knitting.  Some day when my kids are grown, I'll knit the more complicated stuff for my grandchildren ;)

The painted wooden buttons are from Peace Fleece - another thing from my stash.  These buttons are so beautiful - hand painted from Russia.  I had to take the sweater off my lovely model to get a shot from the front  - she got tired of posing and thought it much more fun to run away ;)

There's still some wool left in all the colors.......I'm thinking a hat?

  1. Gorgeous!

I was going to ask you a question about the buttonhole stripe - did you pick up every stitch, or pick up half of them and use a bigger needle...? I may just have to search for picking up stitches in you tube or that good kitting instruction site...

  2. The pattern called for picking up 2 out of every 3 stitches. I actually haven't blocked it yet - I'm looking forward to seeing it after actually.

  3. Thanks! I finally picked up every single row, and it worked great. I also learned the difference between "picking up stitches" and "picking up and knitting stitches". The result was neat, so I'm pleased.

  4. Oh that is so beautiful! The nicest tea leaves I have yet to see, it's perect with the stripes. I love O-wool, do you? Melody sent me some a couple of years ago and I loved knitting with it, it's hard to find over here, er, impossible really! Miss A certainly suits the colour, what a beauty!

There are so many sweet things I want to knit, now I can add this pattern too.

  5. Ah thanks Claire :) And definitely try this pattern it is sooooooo easy - seriously. I love patterns like that - where it's easy as pie, but looks tricky ;) I like o-wool - it may have been a little heavy for this project, but I don't care. I never really got gauge - it's a tad wide, but it works, so whatever. I like the stripes too :)

Hey - M - what were you picking up stitches on? I had to learn the difference in the 2 types of picking up stitches on my first project - this was just picking up stitches tho - I can't really remember how to do it the other way now - I'd have to look it up again ;)

  7. Hi Heather...I had to take a peek at the Tea Leaves for your girl. I began it a while back with another mama who lives in New England and we were kind of knitting together. But twice, my yarn choice failed me! Now I'm waiting for the real Madeline Tosh stuff. I'm also going to knit one for myself afterwards. It's been a while since I knit myself anything...ages, really. This is pretty. And yes, it is sooo easy! Hope you are all doing well:)

Aeowyn wants a rainbow one - I've got some rainbow noro - I've got waaaaaay too many plans tho lol. Leg warmers for SKye too - thigh high no less. Better get knitting ;)

  9. Hi, I wandered over from "a little crafty nest". Beautiful sweater! I say who needs complicated knits when simple knits are this beautiful!?

  10. Absolutely :) I totally agree :) Right now I'm completely satisfied with simple. Maybe as my knitting progresses I'll crave more of a challenge. That's what happened for me with photography - eventually a point and shoot just didn't do it for me.
